Flexible, down-to-earth -- I try to figure out how YOU learn best. I am a retired college/university professor, and have been tutoring actively for the last six years (privately, as well as in a mentoring program at a community college). My tutoring experience has focused primarily upon mathematics, statistics, writing, Test Prep (e.g., ACT,SAT, GRE, math placement tests), chemistry and economics. Students have told me that I explain otherwise difficult material (especially in mathematics), in a down-to-earth and commonsense manner that makes sense intuitively.

I engage with a new student for a relationship. I inquire regarding their expectations, concerns, fears, and hopes for tutoring. I then explain my tutoring philosophy. Then, I ask for a diagnosis of how well they are performing the course material subject, and how I can help them best in the first session. I have tutored university, college, and high school students for 15 years with great success. I can help you any math from basic math, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, or even business math or applied math. I have led several small groups of teenagers and young adults in Biblical studies at Prairie Hill Evangelical Free Church, several musical groups in practicing and performing, and a summer-long book club at Crown College. In gaining my Associate of Arts degree from Crown College, I also led many study groups on subjects ranging from Chemistry to Physics, English Literature to Creative Writing. I love discovering each individual student and the way to help them learn. My goal is to help students become inspired by their subject matter so that it can play a role in their lives as well as their test scores.

I am a laid back type of instructor and use my experience and intuition to create unique learning environments for each student. I like students to express themselves in their studies, and I encourage each student to express their natural gifts. I have a creative mind which allows me to relate to many types of students and many subjects and to use student's natural interests as a starting point for learning new material. I have taught for over 30 years in a variety of institutions, but mostly public schools. I am conversant in Spanish and have a broad range of interests and fields of knowledge, including English literature, Math, History, Science, current events and Politics. I have taught grades 3-12, and have experiences teaching all income levels and socio-economic backgrounds.

I have 2+ years tutoring experience in all junior high and high school subjects, as well as 1 year teaching experience in literature. I am very interested in learning as well as teaching. I believe that the best way for students to learn is to discover it themselves, with some guidance from a knowledgeable teacher (me!). Socratic.

Using a variety of teaching strategies, I engage students with all learning styles including using music, creative writing, visual arts, interpersonal interactions, quiet reading, and exploratory activities. My experience with young learners has taught me that all students appreciate authentic learning situations, in which they can use all of their senses to experience a subject. Furthermore, I believe and have seen that all students can learn, though at differing rates. I am patient with all students, and try to demonstrate to them my own love of learning, as well as my consideration of each of them as unique and special individuals. The bachelors degree I received in English Literature and Spanish allowed me to spend two years serving as a United States Peace Corps volunteer in Ecuador. There, I became fluent in Spanish and decided to return to the United States to pursue degrees in bo

To me, the best thing about teaching and tutoring is those teachable moments when you can practically see the light bulb go on in a childs head, as they finally realize they get it and are so proud of themselves! I like to involve my students as much as possible in talking problems or ideas out, and encourage them to discover the answers by thinking outside the box and looking at things from multiple perspectives. I like to use examples and visual aids as much as possible. As a student in the Elementary Education program at University of Phoenix I completed 13 weeks of teaching to a first grade class in 2004. I also tutored multiple students at that time at two different elementary schools. In 2009 I tutored two boys, ages eight and ten, in multiple subjects for approximately three months, with up to three sessions a week. I have an affinity for Science, Writing, English Composition,

All students possess the ability to achieve academic success; however, many are unable to identify a streamlined path. I have worked with a wide range of students and have learned from each one a new teaching/learning style. One of the most important roles of an educator is to help the student identify goals and determine the most effective way to reach them. Furthermore, I believe that the role of a tutor is not to simply teach content; each session should make the student that much more independent as they learn the individualized strategies and techniques to reach academic success. As an undergraduate, I became very passionate about the sciences and graduated with a BA in Chemistry with a minor in Psychology and Biology. During my collegiate years, I Peer Tutored for General and Organic Chemistry laboratories and held review sessions for these courses. During my latter two years, I al

I focus on the individual first - her style of learning, what makes her mind tick, how she responds to different methods of teaching. I believe that people are treated fairly by being treated individually. I also believe that people do not care how much you know until they know how much you care. I strive to set an example of genuine care and concern for the learner. During the last five years I have taught others how to use social media, viral marketing, search engine optimization and social media marketing more effectively. I have been recognized by peers as a leader in the emerging space of social knowledge, which embraces a holistic approach to the social interactions an organization has internally and with customers and partners.

Four years tutoring at the undergraduate college level when I was an undergraduate student myself. This includes calculus 1&2&3 and college algebra. Also physics, chemistry and biology. I perused a double major of pre medicine and electrical engineering at the undergraduate level. I needed some extra money and found a lot of satisfaction in helping others and I found myself to be good at it and still tutor co-workers today. In addition I have done tutoring as a working professional for new college hires and junior staff for about 30 years. In my opinion every student learns in a different way giving his or her own approach to developing an understanding of new unfamiliar knowledge. Also these same students shift their methods depending upon the material being introduced and discussed. It is for this reason that I seek to first try to carefully understand the students learning style an

I believe that in order to help a student you must first be able to connect with him/her. That could mean understanding a student’s background, researching the latest video games or playing softball after class. For example, several of the girls I worked with at the JEI Learning Center, spoke very little English. Often they got frustrated and just sort of shut down -- stopped responding. At first I tried to have them draw pictures but when that didn't work, I asked them to show me something from home. They folded cranes and strawberries out of the paper that I gave them. Though the exercise didn't help them understand verb tense, it did help build trust between us. After that, when they felt insecure or confused, I was less intimidating. While earning my bachelor's degree, I worked in several tutoring programs assisting students with reading comprehension and writing composition skills.

I teach because I believe in the impact a teacher can have on a child, and the impact a child can have on the world. I embrace each child’s personality and background, harness their unique strengths and talents, and foster growth in potentially underdeveloped skills to cater to the individual needs of each child. I am dedicated and experienced in meeting the “specific needs” of all learners. I am committed to helping students find success in the classroom and discovery in everyday experiences. I am skilled in developing individual learning plans, promoting total development ~ academic, physical, emotional, ethical, and social. I strive for all students to feel confident, valued, and ready for future schooling. As a former Peace Corps Volunteer, International Curriculum Developer and teacher I am convinced that our world is a classroom full of opportunity and information. I have exp

love teaching and working with all children but I am capable of teaching all ages. I am flexible, patient, and persistent and try to couple my persistence with humor and light-heartedness when teaching challenging subjects. I try to convey to all students who struggle that at some point, everyone has academic challenges; and that it's 'not where you start, but where you finish.' I have been engaged in tutoring since college; started a tutoring program for inner city kids in Atlanta, GA while in College. I have a B.S. degree in Biology and therefore have a lot of experience in the sciences and mathematics. I also worked with Step Ahead Tutors in Milwaukee, Wisconsin prior to recently moving to Denver, CO. During the last 10 years I have tutored middle school, high school, and medical students in an array of math and science subject.
