My comments on tutoring Painting : As an elementary, high school and college Studio Art teacher, I teach units on painting in a variety of media as is age-appropriate. I personally work in water, tempera, acrylic, oil and beyond.

Never stop pushing yourself to learn

I have taught a large array of children and adults, anywhere from a 2nd grader struggling with reading to adult Burmese refugees. I have the patience and flexibility to successfully work with anyone. I started tutoring when I was around the age of 13. I taught a young Korean girl English, where I would have to create my own lesson plans. As a tutor, I find that it is important to present the material to the students in a way that they can relate to. My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial. Positive responses to students are extremely valuable, even if they may occasionally give the wrong answer. This will give them the motivation to do well. Painting is one of my top subjects! I specialize in digital painting, in programs such as Photoshop and GIMP. I do not specialize in traditional media such as oils and acrylic, but I can teach the fundamentals such as color theory and composition. I've worked for Disney Research as an artist for over a year. As a teacher, I've successfully helped students get admitted into their desired magnet schools, such as LaGuardia High School, Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, and the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts. I've also helped artists get their first freelancing gigs.

I teach online through Skype or Google Hangouts. During drawing lessons, I take screenshots of the student's artwork. If the student is using their webcam while drawing on paper, I have them hold up their drawings to the webcam so that I can take screenshots of their work. As I'm sharing my screen, I digitally draw my demonstrations and mark up student's work so that they can precisely pinpoint where they should revise their drawings. This has been most effective, and students show improvement over the course of each hour they have lessons with me.
