Private and group lessons- Beginner Level Dance!

I have been teaching dance for four years, ranging from groups of 20 young students to private sessions for adults. I typically work with children and am experienced with large groups. I currently teach Ballet and Tap at Ajala Essence Dance Studio in Lansdowne, PA. I was the Performance Coordinator at Abington Friends Summer Enrichment Program in Jenkintown, PA. At 21 years old I am a performer and have 30+ credits of stage, film, radio and television performances. I have been singing and dancing my whole life, studying from world class instructors, such as Mark Yonally, Catherine McDaniel, Kathleen Clawson, Delreen Hafenrichter, Wendy Barker, and others. B-boy style by the mile!!!!

My teaching style is definitely more of a facilitator/demonstrator style where I show and teach you the moves step by step then encourage you (the peer) to learn, search, and practice independently.
I have breakdancing since '98. I have competed and won many battles both alone and with my old breakdancing crew. I have taught an all ages class successfully for one year and a middle school class for another single year. I have done choreography and am very proficient in innovating and creating new moves. I can do: flips (front and back), power-moves i.e. windmills, flare, 1990's, 2000's, and more, and many different styles of footwork! I can also assist you with regular modern hip-hop moves as well.

My comments on tutoring Jazz Dancing : I have danced most of my life and Jazz has always been one of my best and most common dance types.

Through the Teaching Academy I was in I learned all of the different the different teaching styles and how to teach them. I personally like the student to have structure but I understand they are young and need a little patience and time and with help and practice they will get it! Its just a matter of finding what works best for them and doing it.
I have always wanted to teach! So any opportunity I got in high school I took it! I was enrolled in the teaching academy all through high school. My comments on tutoring Jazz Dancing : I have roughly 19 years experience with Jazz/Modern/Hip-Hop dance. I began taking lessons at age two and continued dancing until I was a senior in college (with the UNC-CH Starheels Dance Company). I also have three years of dance teaching experience for children and adults of all ages, both in private lessons and group lessons. I have choreographed dances for competitions and recitals, as well as offered additional coaching for children outside of normal class time.

I have a degree in English and Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and have two years experience writing for the Daily Tar Heel. I have also completed internships with the local NPR station, WUNC, and with the organization AGRADU (Advocates for Grassroots Development in Uganda).
