I've helped high school and college students with homework support in physics, chemistry, and advanced high school math. My degrees have taken me places that I never thought they would. I was excited to teach English in a school in Costa Rica for one year. There I was able to learn Spanish quickly as well as help elementary school children learn English. I taught grammar as well as science. I also tutored on the side in all subjects. I’ve never bought into the argument that some kids just can’t do math. There is plenty of truth that some learn math much quicker and easier than others, but with a good work ethic and plenty of encouragement all kids are capable of learning these sciences. I feel the most important thing to do as a teacher is to stay positive, and try to somehow relate the math problems to real life situations. When correcting a student, it’s vital to carefully choose your words, for a harsh response will demoralize the student’s spirit and desire to learn.
