Psychology is one of my top subjects! As a psychology major, I have extensive knowledge of most aspects of psychology- introductory, social, cognitive, biological/neuroscience, personality, psychopathology, and history of psychology.

I have succeeded as a Pre-Med student and psychology major while playing for the University of Colorado D1 women’s volleyball team and thus developed excellent study skills. I have taken and done well on the MCAT and I am applying to medical school in the summer of 2013. I have spent time tutoring my younger brother and many of my teammates and friends in biology, general chemistry, writing/editing, and all psychology fields.

My comments on tutoring Psychology : College level.

I believe in success. There is no guarantee someone will learn on the first try. It's all about enjoying the learning experience and positive reinforcement. I also believe in humor and think that it can help a lot in peoples difficult situations.
I have helped tutor AVID high school students when I was a senior at Cherry Creek High School. I enjoy helping the kids learn and believe that being a tutor would pay it forward since I had so much help from tutors. I always helped my friends out because I was in higher level classes than them some of the times. I also worked with tutors and know how much of a difference they can make. I'm currently studying at CSU and still work with friends on homework if they need help.

Math, Statistics,Writing, ACT/SAT/GRE Test Prep

I am a retired college/university professor, and have been tutoring actively for the last six years (privately, as well as in a mentoring program at a community college). My tutoring experience has focused primarily upon mathematics, statistics, writing, Test Prep (e.g., ACT,SAT, GRE, math placement tests), chemistry and economics. Students have told me that I explain otherwise difficult material (especially in mathematics), in a down-to-earth and commonsense manner that makes sense intuitively.
Flexible, down-to-earth -- I try to figure out how YOU learn best.

Need a fun, compassionate, patient, and understanding tutor?

Well, throughout my life, I have worked with fellow students to foster better understanding of class material both in myself and in my classmates. In addition to informal, unpaid cooperation in mastering class material, I have also held positions tutoring both as a freelance tutor and as an hourly employee of the Academic Advancement Center, a Trio Program run at Colorado State University. At this job, where I have worked for the past two years, I have tutored low-income, first-generation, and disabled students (both physical and learning disabilities) in a variety of subjects including Psychology, French, Composition, Sociology, and Spanish.
I tend to use the socratic method a lot to help my students arrive at their own conclusions and understanding of material, paired with some basic, interactive instruction when students do not already understand some of the material involved. ... read more

Tutor with 13 years experience

Make learning fun and everyone wins! Not all children absorb material the same way. I try to explore different ways of presenting material and working through concepts to relate the material to something that can be understood.
I'm an environmental engineer who has been tutoring for the last 13 years. I enjoy working with children and excell at working with children who might be struggling with comprehension or who have learning disabilities. I have experience working with children who are ESL or ELL. I have worked with elementary, secondary and high school students.

During my three years of formal tutoring, I was able to change my tutoring styles to fit the needs of the student. Everyone learns differently and it is important to realize and adjust my tutoring accordingly.
During the last three years of my undergraduate college career, I was a Mathematics tutor for student athletes. Although the courses covered while tutoring ranged from basic math to calculus, I am more comfotable tutoring algebra and geometry. I earned my BA with a double major in Mathematics and Russian in just four years. After college, I helped my sister and step-sister with their math and math-related physcis problems.

The more time I spend with kids, the more I realize how many different ways they learn. Kids have taught me a great deal about looking at things from a different point of view and teaching to a variety of levels, abilities, and learning styles. I KNOW each child has the ability to learn. Unfortunately, I also know each child has the ability to feel failure and confusion. My greatest pleasure is seeing students grasp a concept that was previously very foreign. A kid who breaks a smile while struggling to learn a challenging idea means success to me. I aspire to make students feel comfortable, supported, accepted, and encouraged through my patience, understanding, rethinking, and openness. Ideally, my students will find their own motivation, strength and determination to find future success in educational endeavors. I know I am making a difference in each life I touch and I feel lucky to h ... read more

I studied both music and Spanish at Colorado State University, and during my time as a student, I worked as a piano teacher in my own home. I enjoyed interacting one-on-one with each student, as they were all different in their personalities, music level, and interests. I found ways for them to acquire a love of music by adjusting my teaching style to their individual differences. After graduating, I became a full-time music teacher at the Piano Institute in Fort Collins and maintained a teaching schedule of 20 to 30 students per week. Although my expertise is in music, I am capable of tutoring in English, Spanish, reading, writing, math (up to the junior-high level), elementary science, and the liberal arts.
My goal when teaching is to see each student not only arrive at a point of understanding, but to witness a sense of joy and confidence in the process, as the sense of "I c ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate of Law School, but my first love and continued passion is education. I have vast life experiences as well as experiences in education that were both diverse and enriching. My English background has provided me with a great content-area knowledge; while my law background has taught me an analytical side to reading and writing.
My love is working with kids. My true gift is working with kids who have otherwise had problems in an academic setting.

One of my greatest strengths as a teacher is my ability to discern whether or not a student has understood a concept. I recognize that students learn through different methods and I know how to present complex information in a variety of ways so that a student grasps the topic. I believe in having students demonstrate learning by performing activities and exercises that reinforce presented material. I have a good rapport with students of all ages and they find me accessible which enhances the teacher-student relationship. My ultimate goal is for students to become self directed learners who can eventually take control of their own educational experience. Once they have confidence in their skills and abilities they will then be able to be successful both in school and beyond.
I possess both a B.S. degree in zoology/ biology and a M.S. degree in environmental health. I have a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Although I earned a mathematics degree, I struggled to gain complete competence in algebra and geometry. I believe that my initial struggles have enabled me to become a better teacher because I constantly offer several ways of solving a problem to my students. I do not have to pause and wait for them to comprehend the material the first try. I can simply try re-phrasing or a different method. Also, I am intrinsically patient and a people-pleaser. I love seeing children succeed and value their success.
As a mathematics graduate, I am very detail-oriented and organized. Throughout college I tutored college students in calculus, business math, and statistics. I also tutored high school students in Algebra 1 and 2, Trigonometry, and Geometry. My easy-going and patient teaching style created many referrals that made me a successful and lucrative tutor. I love to work with children and adults. I feel that the best way for my students learn is for them to get hands on experience whether that be guided problem solving or actual lab work. I think that through this way my students reach their greatest potential.

I have not only an extensive understanding of science but I also know how to specifically teach science. As each student is unique, my teaching style is eclectic and tailored to the individual student as to how they best learn. Having a degree in Psychology gives me the unique opportunity to understand the individual, present them with techniques that promote better study habits, and increase their retention. I have dealt with situations of dyslexia, test anxiety, panic attacks, and challenging home/lifestyle situations, and have met with those challenges with success. As part of my continuing education I have taken a graduate class in Meta Cognition which is all about learning, learning styles, and how to create the best environments.
As a nontraditional student at Casper College in Casper, WY I augmented my tuition costs as a peer tutor for two years specializing in Biology, Anatomy, and Psychology. I have extensive experience in writing research papers, and interpreting case s ... read more

I work well with children. As the mother of eight, I have experience with all ages, and a variety of learning styles. I try to discover each childs strengths and play to those, encouraging individual learning styles.
In addition to being a substitute teacher for the Thompson School District, I homeschooled my own eight children for over nine years. During that time, I taught numerous homeschool group classes, including biology, cooking and english.

Teaching children takes patience and creativity. Each child is different in their attention span and interests. Making each subject important and interesting is one place to start. It is crucial to never let a child give up, and not to give up on them yourself. My goal in teaching is to determine which way the child learns, for example a visual learning may need to draw out spelling words, where an audible learner needs to recite them. I love to find new ways to relate what they are learning with life outside of school and in this way show them how important the subject is. I do believe that each child can learn, but sometimes not understanding a subject is like building a wall on a road. A tutor's job is to break down the wall and make sure that the child knows how to keep the roads clear.
My degrees have taken me places that I never thought they would. I was excited to teac ... read more
