My teaching style is not entirely concrete, for I feel that it depends on the maturity of the student and willingness to learn the subject at hand. I am very patient when I need to be, and my main goal is to simply make sure each student walks away knowing what they needed to learn. I am a 19 year old college student who is living in Murrieta for the next few summer months, and attends Cal State Fullerton. I have taken piano lessons for over 11 years now, and have a few years experience in teaching/tutoring in piano. My major concentration in college is Studio Art, and have also had experience in teaching art classes through M.A.D. Studio. I am what you might call a camp kid. I grew up spending summers in the mountains, camping and hiking and when I grew older, working. The foundation of my leadership experience was built in the forrest. For six summers I worked as an outdoor educator and adventure guide, leading groups of students through week long trips into the natural world. I believe in experience as the greatest teacher. Students are empowered when they learn from their experience and begin to flourish in themselves. At university, my enthusiasm for the outdoors lead me to the arts. I took a particular interest in poetry and short stories and immersed myself in literary life at UCSD. I have been a public school music educator for three years, and have taught privately for ten years. Growing up, I was always interested in Physics, Math and Science. I started tutoring elementary students about a year and a half ago. In 1997 I was a teacher assistant for the Huntington Park High School music department. I ran rehearsals with the marching band, jazz band, jazz choir, beginning orchestra, and beginning band. In April of 2000 I started working at Middleton Street School where I had the music program under my direction for almost ten years. Instruments include: Violin, Guitar, Vihuela, Guitarron, Voice, and Trumpet. I currently have my own Mariachi group, and play with other groups who need or are short in musicians. Groups include: USC Mariachi, Cal State L.A. Mariachi, and Mariachi Juvenil Voz de America. I evaluate the student and see where he/she stands and move forward in progressing their skill. Every instrument is different and difficult in its own way. I will teach the student the most productive way to practice by using the technique I learned by professors and professional musicians.
