I am a Graduate Student at San Diego State University obtaining my Masters in Structural Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering while working full time as an engineer for a private firm. I graduated from San Diego State University in 2011 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering, after switching from Aerospace Engineering, and 2 minors in Physical World Geography and World History. I enjoy tutoring/teaching, and can give students a very real perspective of the current teaching methodologies and subject matter. I tutored right after I graduated, before I passed my E.I.T. certification.

I am what you might call a camp kid. I grew up spending summers in the mountains, camping and hiking and when I grew older, working. The foundation of my leadership experience was built in the forrest. For six summers I worked as an outdoor educator and adventure guide, leading groups of students through week long trips into the natural world. I believe in experience as the greatest teacher. Students are empowered when they learn from their experience and begin to flourish in themselves. At university, my enthusiasm for the outdoors lead me to the arts. I took a particular interest in poetry and short stories and immersed myself in literary life at UCSD. I was often asked to facilitate writing workshops and discussion groups, and in doing so I've found tutoring to come quite naturally to me.

I believe tutoring is not only to raise children's grades, but also to make sure they understand the material so it can be applied to other principles in their future education. I believe not every student can be tutored the same way, and I have confidence that I can mold material in a way that each student can understand. As a high school student, I taught music and math to middle school kids for approximately two years. The music they learned was performed in a competitive circuit in which they placed. As an undergraduate, I served as a study proctor in my sorority from 2007-2009 tutoring in the subjects of math, science, and writing.

I'm a big believer of motivation and encouragement. Once the kids are motivated when they feel the bonding, learning success will be achieved in a faster speed. I'd like to talk to the children every day to find out how their days went and their concerns and challenges especially if they feel they're capable of handling of the situation and their ways of doing such. I'm very passionate to help kids to be successful in school as well as in life.
