Experience Summary
In 1997 I was a teacher assistant for the Huntington Park High School music department. I ran rehearsals with the marching band, jazz band, jazz choir, beginning orchestra, and beginning band. In April of 2000 I started working at Middleton Street School where I had the music program under my direction for almost ten years. Instruments include: Violin, Guitar, Vihuela, Guitarron, Voice, and Trumpet.
I currently have my own Mariachi group, and play with other groups who need or are short in musicians. Groups include: USC Mariachi, Cal State L.A. Mariachi, and Mariachi Juvenil Voz de America.
Teaching Style
I evaluate the student and see where he/she stands and move forward in progressing their skill. Every instrument is different and difficult in its own way. I will teach the student the most productive way to practice by using the technique I learned by professors and professional musicians. For trumpet, I work on the embochure, and breathing. For violin, I evaluate the way the student holds the instrument including posture. I use a special tape to help guide with the notes which I use as training wheels, and take them down one at a time as the student progresses.
The student learns at his/her pace and will vary by the amount of practice he/she puts into it.
