Math and Physics Tutor

I can teach algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, physics, and engineering classes. My education was in Civil Engineering with a focus on mathematics, and I have over 4 years of experience tutoring at elementary school, middle school, high school, community college, and university levels.
I follow the "EDGE" method for teaching: Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, and Enable. I will explain the material, demonstrate it with an example, guide the student through working through a problem, and then enable the student to work independently while still being available for questions. I also try to connect what the student is learning to real-life applications, especially ones that resonate with the student's interests. I find that learning is most effective when the students can connect it to what they personally find meaningful.

Chemistry is one of my top subjects! This is a difficult subject for many students, especially if they are not strong in math. I have always enjoyed helping people to understand these beginning concepts in a way that they can remember them and use them as they progress to other classes! M.S. in Chemistry plus 3 years Junior College teaching experience and 15 years of tutoring experience.

I believe I have a talent to find the "disconnect" in where a student is missing the concept and help them to understand it through a variety of examples and analogies. I like to work with students face-to-face, but online is great, too! With online tutoring, nobody has to drive and the appointment times and session lengths can be a lot more flexible. It's easy to do and doesn't require any special hardware or software!
I obtained my Master's Degree with the intent to teach. I did teach for 3 years at a small Junior College, then moved into industry. Chemistry is one of my top subjects! Expert at all General Chemistry I & II concepts. Particularly good at emphasizing the important concepts of General Chemistry I and II that keep coming back to haunt you over and over again in future chapters if you don't get them right the first time: dimensional analysis (unit chaining and canceling), the key element groups and their properties (alkali metals, halogens, etc.), how to name chemical compounds and acids, gas laws, energy and heats (of formation, etc.), balancing chemical equations, solubility, oxidation-reduction reactions, using Lewis structures to determine polarity, intermolecular forces, and especially, ICE tables. Everything is connected in chemistry, and I will make sure you don't get away with not knowing something really important you should have already learned when you're halfway through the course.

I am currently employed by a college in Roanoke, Virginia as a tutor of mathematics, chemistry, and computer science and tutor elementary school, middle school, high school, college students, and others professionally.
