Chemistry is one of my top subjects! This is a difficult subject for many students, especially if they are not strong in math. I have always enjoyed helping people to understand these beginning concepts in a way that they can remember them and use them as they progress to other classes! M.S. in Chemistry plus 3 years Junior College teaching experience and 15 years of tutoring experience.

I obtained my Master's Degree with the intent to teach. I did teach for 3 years at a small Junior College, then moved into industry. However, even while I was working in industry, I tutored several students over the years. Several of my previous students have gone on to Pharmacy School, three have acquired their PharmD degrees. Another student has just completed her Physician's Assistant program at a very competitive institution. Chapter 31 VA Voc-Rehab Provider. I started teaching chemistry in 1964. During my child-raising years, I did a lot of substitute teaching in various subjects, and worked at part-time and temporary classroom teaching and tutoring. My longest position was at University of Massachusetts, Lowell campus, (1993 through 2004, before moving to Florida), teaching 3 different levels of Freshman Chemistry. I have tutored chemistry, math, and biology in Florida since 2007, as an employee of Advanced Learning Center, St. Petersburg, until 2011, and independently to the present time. A major portion has been at Shorecrest Prep, St Petersburg, 2007 to now. I have met students at school, home, libraries and other public places. Before I started teaching, I engaged in cancer and space research.

Chemistry is one of my top subjects! Expert at all General Chemistry I & II concepts. Particularly good at emphasizing the important concepts of General Chemistry I and II that keep coming back to haunt you over and over again in future chapters if you don't get them right the first time: dimensional analysis (unit chaining and canceling), the key element groups and their properties (alkali metals, halogens, etc.), how to name chemical compounds and acids, gas laws, energy and heats (of formation, etc.), balancing chemical equations, solubility, oxidation-reduction reactions, using Lewis structures to determine polarity, intermolecular forces, and especially, ICE tables. Everything is connected in chemistry, and I will make sure you don't get away with not knowing something really important you should have already learned when you're halfway through the course.

I am currently employed by a college in Roanoke, Virginia as a tutor of mathematics, chemistry, and computer science and tutor elementary school, middle school, high school, college students, and others professionally. For the last 23 years, it has been so fulfilling working for three colleges and tutoring independently over 2,000 students of all ages in all areas of math and computer science, as well as college writing, adult literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL). Learning Math can be FUN!
