I am Deaf. Americans Sign Language is my primary language since age 2. I studied linguistics of ASL/Deaf history/Deaf Culture at Western Oregon University and Deaf Education at McDaniel College. I value ASL. I am currently learning PTASL (a communication mode within DeafBlind community). My goal is to give back to Deaf/Hard of Hearing/DeafBlind communities including children. Everyone has the ability to learn but not everyone has the same ability. Most people are visual or tactile learners whereas most teachers, in my experience, use verbal/aural instruction methods. I believe in tailoring my teaching to the needs of the student and not to what I am most relaxed with. I have personally taught several tactile students who had to have something in their hands or they could not grasp the concepts. Other times I've instructed students in strong visual methods incorporating drawings, artwork and short videos.
