I am Deaf. Americans Sign Language is my primary language since age 2. I studied linguistics of ASL/Deaf history/Deaf Culture at Western Oregon University and Deaf Education at McDaniel College. I value ASL. I am currently learning PTASL (a communication mode within DeafBlind community). My goal is to give back to Deaf/Hard of Hearing/DeafBlind communities including children. As I have gone through my classes at Clover Park Technical College to become a para educator and I have work with the middle school kids at my job I have come to realize that I really enjoy working and helping the kids understand how to do new activity as well as help them out with their school work I really enjoy being around teenagers as well as younger age groups my goal is to become a para educator as well as a recreation coordinator in a middle school. I have work with special education student, as well as advance placement student. I have only noticed one difference with each group and that is the pace that the classroom goes in. Everyone has the ability to learn but not everyone has the same ability. Most people are visual or tactile learners whereas most teachers, in my experience, use verbal/aural instruction methods. I believe in tailoring my teaching to the needs of the student and not to what I am most relaxed with. I have personally taught several tactile students who had to have something in their hands or they could not grasp the concepts.
