Elementary Phonics is one of my top subjects! I would almost consider myself an expert on phonics. It is the basics of learning to read. A child must know phonics and sight reading in combination to be able to read, but without the basics of phonics they will never be able to sound out any word for themselves and memorize it.Unfortunately mot schools today only teach one or the other. Which is, I believe why so many of our children can't read now. They are missing one of the 2 fundamentals of reading. I am currently tutoring a 7 yr. old in phonic.phonics and taught both of my children phonics at the same time as I taught them their Alphabet.Which is why, I believe they could both read at a 5th grade level when they entered kindergarten.

Creative teaching for a life time love of learning. I gather everything at my disposal to work with my students and teach to their particular style of learning. I have used basketball to teach social studies. Vegetables to teach science. Peanuts cereal and even M & M's to teach math. A lecture is not always the best method of teaching, but that is what they get in the classroom. A tutor has more flexibility.

Learning is serious, but that doesn't mean it has to be grim

I encourage higher order thinking, and help students learn to become self-directed and independent. Not only will your child develop greater skills and knowledge in each discipline, he/she will develop many specific thinking strategies and skills which they will apply in the classroom and throughout life. My mottos is, "Learning is serious, but that doesn't mean it has to be grim." I believe in making learning exciting, and especially in helping children learn to believe in themselves as successful learners. A Little Bit About Me...

With over 20 years experience as an educator I have taught, tutored, and trained students from pre-school to adults. I hold an MA in Education and Counseling, a BA in Socialpsychology and an AA in Early Childhood Education. and two teaching credentials - k-8 and adult. I am a credentialed teacher and for the past three years I have taught grades k-12. My academic strengths are English - reading, writing, and literature, Spanish, elementary/junior high math, science, and social studies.
