I would almost consider myself an expert on phonics. It is the basics of learning to read. A child must know phonics and sight reading in combination to be able to read, but without the basics of phonics they will never be able to sound out any word for themselves and memorize it.Unfortunately mot schools today only teach one or the other. Which is, I believe why so many of our children can't read now. They are missing one of the 2 fundamentals of reading.
