I have 20 years of Finance, Information Systems and Engineering experience. As a person that put himself through college, both undergrad and grad school and then taught at a local Community College, I bring a unique perspective on the value that education can bring to a person's life. I firmly believe teaching requires structure. In that regard, the learning process requires a sequences of steps. Firstly, the student must understand the problem to be solved or the skill to be acquired. Secondly, examples are required to show how to approach and solve a prolem. Lastly, overarching concepts can be introduced to unitfy that which is new with that which is already understood. This approach has succesfully trained and kept the interest of all individuals that I have mentored. I have a rare gift of being able to impart practical examples of academic principles. In one experience with a former student I explained calculus in a way that she could relate the rate of change to a physical experience in a way that it came alive. When principles are understood in a practical and physical manner students are bound to to have a solid understanding of the fundamentals and are better able to both retain and build upon them. Many times students find a disconnect between academics and often question whether what they learn can benefit them in the future.
