I teach 7th grade remedial and general math. I work students at risk of not passing, and I work very hard to break down math concepts. I believe it is so important to find a way to make each student understand a concept. I do not teach "just one way", but find the method that turns my students'lightbulb on. Before this position I taught middle school math to students with learning disabilities at the same school. A new principal after watching me teach, moved all my 7th grade students and had me take over the regular math position working with all struggling students. I utilize teacher modeling first,slowly with detailed steps,then use guided learning so the student participates, until they can do the concept independently. It's about what the student understands best and helping them utilize what is easiest for them to work with. I tutor my classmates who were challenged by the courses that we were studying. Often times they could not afford paying tutoring prices at offered at school. I dislike seeing students struggle and continuously repeat courses and not improve.
