Experience Summary
I can offer your company a wide range of experience. I have worked as a speech-language pathologist in two different Texas public school districts, as a home-school administrator, and as a core teacher in the private-school setting. I have taught middle-school language arts and mathematics. With my degree and experience in special needs and learning differences, I served as supervisor/teacher for a special needs program called the Link Lab at Poetry Community Christian School. The Link Lab also provided tutoring for students in the afternoons. I recently moved back to the Shreveport area where I grew up. Not desiring a full-time position in the school system, I would enjoy part-time work, especially in one-on-one learning settings.
Teaching Style
Because of my degree in speech-language pathology, I realize that difficulties in learning often have to do with poor language development. My training allows me to take a full linguistic approach in tutoring, therefore, closing gaps and helping my struggling students to succeed in the classroom. I am able to work with the classroom teacher in bringing all disciplines together. As the student succeeds in the tutoring setting, his self-esteem increases and ultimately his classroom performance improves.
