A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated at second to the top of my High School Class. I have a 4.0 GPA with ASU. I believe in being strict about studying. I believe in taking education seriously. Why have to back track? Many people could easily get good grades without applying studying or being in class. I always worked very hard to organize studying techniques and times so I understand the challenges that students face a lot of times.
Caring and Loving. Visual, providing examples in a real-world context. Teaching in a style that the student understands best!

My comments on tutoring Sociology : I teach sociocultural and socialigical issues related to health care and women's issues.

I am very diverse and have the ability to explain concepts by examples, I use visual and experiential examples to help integrate learning from more than just a reading level. I use my clinical experience to help explain in a very basic way how the body and mind work. I make attempts for individuals to not just memorize information but to understand and apply this information. Though I provide the structure to get through the lesson I also encourage students to ask questions and look beyond the basic meaning of information.

A Little Bit About Me...

Each individual is different. Therefore, you have to know the person first in order to apply a teaching style. Age, gender, and subject matter are some elements that influence how a person learns. Some people learn visually, some people learn by practicing, some people don't want to learn. My style varies according to the individual and what he or she likes or dislikes. As a tutor my role can be from formal authority, demonstrator, facilitator and delegator. Key elements in the classroom: 1) facilitate interaction and 2) delivery of the content to student. The key is to listen to the student, listen to the feedback with a clear understanding of the goals that need to be accomplished for each class.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored through the organization Literacy Volunteers in Flagstaff and Lake Havasu. Additionally, I tutored English in a refugee camp in Zambia, when I was with the Peace Corps. While living in Bangladesh, I tutored adults and children in English, as well as other subjects. I taught for three years in Bangladesh at International Turkish Hope School.
My teaching style is to make sure that those I am helping understand what is being talked about. If they do not, we will keep working at it until clear. Since all teaching ways do not work for all students, I try to figure out what would work best for those I am currently tutoring, so that they will succeed.

Teaching Style: When the school busses arrived in the morning at Drumlin Farm, I would always welcome the visiting pupils with great enthusiasm. I would determine what the boys and girls already knew, or thought they knew, and what they would like to learn. Then we would go off to have a joyous and educational time learning about, and milking the cows, collecting and scrambling eggs, or planting pumpkin seeds in the warm May soil. I still remember the inner city classroom teacher who remarked on how "Johnny", a boy who tended to cause trouble in the classroom, was now thoroughly engaged in the project, and eagerly helping his buddies.
My Experience: In 1964, I graduated from Columbia College, in Geology. Subsequently, I worked in oil well drilling in Israel, and on a dam project in New Jersey. After earning an MA in Art Education, at Brooklyn College in 1975, I helped found the Wal ... read more

My teaching style is Socratic in method. I have learned a large variety of techniques to help teach some of the most basic to the most advanced concepts to a large audience of students. I like to mold my teaching style to fit with each individual student. As a teacher of special-needs and emotionally handicapped children, I have learned techniques that make me a formidable teacher in any environment, so long as I am familiar with the material. I work hard for my students, and am not willing to have them do anything that I would not do myself.
I attended Northern Arizona University, whereupon I fell in love with sociology. I have a firm grasp of basic and advanced sociological concepts, specializing in historical analysis and research methods. After school, I spent my time working temporary jobs, and found one that I thoroughly enjoyed. At Wyko I aquired a set of technical sk ... read more

I do not believe in hierarchy. I think the teacher-student or tutor-student relationship should be one of equal footing and mutual discovery. This means asking questions together and seeking out the fundamental answers to questions. I think all children and adults deserve a place to learn about themselves and the world around them where they are free to ask any question and challenge any assumption. This does not mean I am a push over and cannot create structure in a lesson. I just strive to do it in a way that does not discourage creativity and authentic discovery about themselves and the world.
I attended college at three different schools, on athletic scholarship in two of them. I earned two bachelor degrees, BA in Philosophy and BA in Political Science. An understanding of the student and his/her background, strengths and weaknesses, and motivation is key to successful learning. This student-centered approach has gained favor in recent years, and using this approach in an interactive way allows the student to develop critical-thinking skills at an optimal pace.
As a graduate student at the University of Chicago, I was responsible for leading introductory core Biology labs, which covered an array of concepts in biology, statistics, computer usage, and experimental design. Because lab reports were frequent requirements, I also was able to improve skills as a writing tutor I had already developed as a writing tutor (paid student position) in the Writing Lab at Towson University. I also have taught a remedial study- and life-skills course for students on Academic Probation at the University of Arizona. Finally, in my capacity as Acade ... read more

I gained my BA in History only after years of serious and devoted study, and I bring a respect for whatever subject I teach to the classroom. After gaining my teaching certification with my MS, I taught history and geography in Alabama. After my Latin American Studies MA. I taught Latin, Greek, and Spanish. My tutoring was for middle and high school students in these and other fields, and I am currently a tutor for the University of Arizona's SALT Center, a program which serves university students with learning disabilities. As a linguist of sorts, foreign languages are my specialty, but I also enjoy teaching subjects ranging from mathematics to writing, shying away only from the hard sciences, where I have no talent whatsoever.
My teaching style devotes about half the time to direct instruction, but I make that a firm upper limit. The student must do the active learning in a ... read more

During the last several years, I have worked in the education field in a variety of ways. I have served as a full time teacher and a substitute teacher. Also, I have helped develop a violence awareness curriculum and implemented it in several schools. In 2001 I earned my BA in Sociology from the University of Notre Dame. Since that time I have worked in the education field and in the social work field.

As a PhD student in sociology at the University of Arizona, I work as a teaching assistant, helping students understand upper division course material in sociology. I also write and grade exams for these courses. I have taken four courses (three at the graduate level) in statistics, so I am also qualified to tutor in this area. I have experience with students of all ages; I taught science at the elementary school level, worked as a Residential Advisor at an English language institute for teenagers, and served as a camp counselor at numerous summer camps.
Every student learns differently, but anyone who is open to learning is capable. I enjoy teaching children and teenagers for the spark that they get when something clicks, and they suddenly see the world differently. My experience working with different age levels, from all economic backgrounds, has taught me that all students, no ... read more

Having taught college English in rural China, I have found that I am extremely adaptable in my teaching style. I have the ability to precisely coordinate my teaching techniques with the background and needs of the student in order to create a succesful and executable educational support system. In teaching, I aim to provide the student with a breadth of perspective in any given topic while enhancing their analytical abilities. A Little Bit About Me...

I have a BA in Psychology, MS in Zoology and BS in Computer Science. I have lifetime Arizona Community College certification in psychology, biology, ecology and remedial math. My experience with special populations includes: three years full-time on the Navajo Reservation; three years part-time at the SALT Center at the University of Arizona working with learning disabled students; and a hands-on nature camp for deaf middle-schoolers. My favorite experience has been the opportunity to design the curriculum, code the programs, and teach the student counselors for the U of A's Computer Science week-long summer enrichment program for teens.
My forte is science and math, which are often students' least favorite subjects, due to earlier difficulty. A solid basic understanding of these subjects is critical to being an independent, engaged adult; and it's just plain cool to understand ... read more
