A Little Bit About Me...

I expected to graduate in December 2017 with a bachelor and master in Computer Science that is an integral program in NAU. My current GPA is 3.60.My real strength is my attention to detail. I pride myself on my reputation for following through and meeting deadlines. When I commit to doing something, I make sure it gets done, and on time. For example, when I did some projects in programming with my classmates, after we finished our draft. I also needed to fix it again and again. Even a little part of our code is not perfect. Some times, my partner felt boring about it. I encouraged him that we should finish our project perfect.

Wehmütig lief ihm eine rethori ... read more

I graduated from high school with Honors in May of 2014. I am now a Freshman at Northern Arizona University, pursuing a double major in Spanish Secondary Education and Theatre Studies. I took two years of Spanish in high school; I started with Spanish 1 my Junior year and was so proficient that I skipped to Spanish 3 my Senior year and earned my First Year Spanish college credits. Now, at NAU, I am completing my Second Year Spanish credits. I have no formal Spanish tutoring experience, but I have experience with helping friends and peers with beginning-level Spanish. I have been heavily involved in theatre since 7th grade, and it is my life passion. I consider myself a fairly decorated Thespian. I was in theatre all four years of high school, working my way up the ranks to Advanced/Performance level theatre my Senior year. I love teaching and working with children of all ages. I believe in encouraging children to discover what they are to learn instead of rote learning for most things, and I also believe in establishing automaticity for some tasks, such as math facts and geometry theorems. I believe that all children are capable of learning with the right approach. It is important to persist in teaching a concept from different angles until the child "gets it." A good educator can make a world of difference to a child. I am a strong proponent of reinforcing a child's strengths through positive encouragement and exhibiting an enthusiasm for the subject at hand to foster interest on the part of the student.

Although I have taught in a regular classroom setting, I have found that I am most successful working one-on-one with students. I love that in tutoring I can push students to understand their gifts and thus achieve their full academic potential. I have found that with the right tutoring and guidance, any student can be successful in math. I am very patient and easygoing, and yet I expect a lot out of every student I work with. I believe that students learn best by discovering and then applying these concepts to everyday life. I know that the right teacher can make a huge difference in a student’s life, and I strive to be that teacher in the way I tutor and the ideals by which I live my life.

I recently earned my physics degree. I am taking a few classes at NAU during the spring semester. I have tutored for a semester during my senior year of high school, and have been a physics and mathematics tutor at NAU since January 2009. I have a very strong background tutoring Calculus.
I believe in teaching through example. With both physics and mathematics examples are key to develop understanding of theorems and proofs. I help students work through examples and and am able to create a variety of problems through previous experience.

The biggest thing for me when teaching younger kids is patience. I never expect them to know something just because I do; they pick up on frustration which only makes them frustrated themselves. I believe that kids have the capacity to learn anything they please, and I do my best to transfer this belief to them. I never place myself on a pedestal with them, rather I make an effort to ensure that we see eye to eye. I respect them, and they offer me the same in return. For older students, I make sure that they don’t feel barred in by my (or the professors) opinion; rather I encourage them to formulate their own theories, so long as they can back them up. In all cases, I create a relationship with my students in which they can feel comfortable being honest and open with me. Positive reinforcement is the key.
I had two very different teaching experiences in my last semester at ASU. Th ... read more

I am passionate about tutoring. I have been tutoring formally and informally since I started college. I have done group and one-on-one tutoring for college students, international students, and high school students in chemistry, math, English, biology, and other subjects. I have taught high school Oceanography, Chemistry, and Biology. I have also taught Junior High technology. In addition to having my chemistry degree, a minor in biology and a teaching certificate in both subjects, I have some experience teaching college and elementary school classes.
My goal in tutoring is not only to help the students grasp the information, but to cultivate a love of learning and confidence in how they learn best. I want to equip my students to be successful in future subjects because they understand how to learn and how to organize themselves in a way that works best for them. I also belie ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

The most common approach I take to tutoring a student is to first find out the student's learning style (be it visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or a combination), and then work with the student using this learning style. I also like to format the exercises in accordance with the test or quizzes the student is preparing for. I am a very easy going and patient tutor, but I will challenge my students to do their best. I thoroughly enjoy making a difference in the lives of the students I tutor by advancing their education. In addition to school subjects, I have been accepted to medical school, was the vice president of my university's premedical club, and would be more than willing to help students prepare for MCAT.

I began my teaching career with the nonprofit organization, Teach For America. With my undergraduate studies completed in Anthropology and a minor in Spanish I came to the realization that my most rewarding and interesting work had been in working with students and teachers as a tutor in the public school system. So, I decided to move to a very rural location on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. There I spent the next four years as a special education teacher. I taught students with Emotional Disorders, and resoruce level classes in English and math with students with specific learning disabilities. Eventually, I took the lead in creating an inclusion program and was asked to be the department head. At the end of my four years, I completed my Masters Degree in Special Ecuation. More recently, I have been a resource math teacher and inclusion science and English teacher in Flagstaff, ... read more

I find teaching to be an extremely rewarding activity. I immensely enjoy the process of finding the best ways to reach a particular child, especially one who is struggling with a given subject or concept. Finding ways to remove the fear of math or apathy towards learning in general and developing in the child an appreciation for of a historical perspective the are just some of the goals a good educator needs to have in mind. In my particular areas of interest, science and math, I think it's imperative for the educator to work at developing in the student a respect, understanding, and even love for the scientific process. This is essential in creating a life long desire and excitement in finding ways to understand the world and the universe from the empirical perspective.

I have been teaching since 2005, and doing one-on-one tutoring for just as long. I graduated with a BA in Anthropology, and an MA in Philosophy and Religion. Most of my teaching has been with children ages 10-14, though I have experience with everyone from Kindergarten to College. During my Masters, I wrote my thesis on the Philosophy of Science, and studied Ancient Archaeology in depth during my undergraduate years. I write fiction in my spare time, and have extensive experience with research and term papers. I feel comfortable and competent to teach most basic subjects and levels, though my knowledge of math tapers off after 8th grade.
Through my years of teaching I have worked with a variety of learners with different needs. I have worked with children with Autism, ADHD, gifted children, and children with strong emotional needs. I have had to approach each individual diffe ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children of all ages. I feel my career in social work has allowed me to become more centered on compassion as a means of education, and engaging the child in the learning process while being compassionate. Children typically learn best when in a positive, comfortable situation. I would like them to feel comfortable enough to feel like they can be their best around me.
As a former paraprofessional with a Master's Degree in Social Work I have worked with kids in the past behaviorally and academically. I have a solid grasp of English, Grammar, Social Studies, and Mathematics.
