I am a believer in the socratic method. As an Avid tutor we were taught to employ this method to help students understand concepts. I think that it is better to ask questions, and guide students' thinking rather than just giving them the answer, or telling them how to do a problem. As a student working towards a Mathematics degree, very quickly I migrated away from the applied and into the pure, theoretical, aspects of Mathematics.
