I earned a Bachelor's degree in Public Health Nutrition, which required me to take many science classes, including anatomy/physiology and chemistry. I have had a career as an ESL teacher overseas and in the U.S. For the past ten years, I have gained extensive experience teaching primary and secondary students as well as college students and other adults in classroom and tutorial settings. I love meeting and interacting with new people, children and adults alike. I have extreme patience. I believe that it is imperative to make the student feel comfortable in the learning environment. I would never embarrass a student for asking a question. So many times in the past, I have witnessed teachers ridiculing students for asking a question because they genuinely did not understand the subject matter, which prevented the students from asking any more questions in class. A Little Bit About Me...

Although I have no formal teaching experience, we all learn and teach everyday in our lives. I am very intelligent and want to pass that on. I have done much reading when I was younger, exploring memory and mnemonics. I also took the Mega-Memory and speed reading courses by Kevin Trudeau. They are the ones that are in the Skymall catalog. I believe those really helped me in my studies, because I learned to approach learning the same way I approached sports. My goal is to excite students about learning. I encourage my own children as well as those I teach in the classroom to focus first on finding at least one concept in each lesson that attracts them and about which they would like to know more. This philosophy helps to eliminate the student's perception that "I hate math" or "I'm not good at science." I have taught and tutored both children and adults in a wide variety of situations, from job training and test preparation to tutoring for a specific subject. I have taught ESL classes and done individual tutoring, as well as both group and one-on-one instruction in grammar and composition. I have tutored for SAT, ACT, TOEFL, TOEIC, ISEE and entrance exams. I have created my own materials for such tutoring but also use books available commercially.
I am interactive and student-centered. I see where the student's strengths lie and build from there. We do homework and tests together, and I move from a coaching role to an observational one, only coaching occasionally as necessary.
