I have worked as a tutor throughout my undergraduate career and also for a part of my high school career as well (5 years in all). My tutor experience is primarily in math and chemistry, but I also have experience in other science courses (biology & physics), English and reading, and also in general study habits and study skills. A Little Bit About Me...

Science, especially biology and chemistry, has always intrigued me. Since I was a child, I had always known that I wanted to study biology. I received a BA in Biology in May 2006 from CU. During my studies there, I focused on chemistry and received a minor in French. My coursework is quite varied, and I have experience writing scientific papers, laboratory reports, research papers, and essays. Last fall, I taught an English class to adults in Mahahual, Mexico where I was volunteering.

A Little Bit About Me...

My goal is to excite students about learning. I encourage my own children as well as those I teach in the classroom to focus first on finding at least one concept in each lesson that attracts them and about which they would like to know more. This philosophy helps to eliminate the student's perception that "I hate math" or "I'm not good at science." Secondly, I use text-to-self and text-to-world relationships to get students to recognize the broader application of subjects. Although I have no formal teaching experience, we all learn and teach everyday in our lives. I am very intelligent and want to pass that on. I have done much reading when I was younger, exploring memory and mnemonics. I also took the Mega-Memory and speed reading courses by Kevin Trudeau. They are the ones that are in the Skymall catalog. I believe those really helped me in my studies, because I learned to approach learning the same way I approached sports. People would laugh in university when I would tell them that I never read anything for school late at night because I was tired and it wouldn't sink in properly, or that I would never eat a meal less than one hour before a test and I challenged them to try the same.
