My teaching style depends on the student. Some students need me to explain the subject material to them rather than read it from the book, while other students benefit most if they work through a problem and then ask me a question when they get stuck. Though regardless of the student, I always ask questions as we go, because I know that students learn best when they engage with the material.
I graduated this spring with honors from Carleton College. For my senior thesis in Math, three of my colleagues and I designed a Challenge Math curriculum for fifth grade students. Together we compiled our lessons into a book, and once a week each we taught a small group of students. A Little Bit About Me...

As an honors graduate, I pursued most of my education within my communications degree. I will begin teaching a 15-20 person writing class of 4-6 graders at the YWCA in Boulder this month. This is similar to a youth organization I worked for in high school where I mentored a group of elementary age students and initiated a youth magazine where the participants could publish their own poetry and stories. It is very similar to sports, you start off learning the techniques and then you must learn how you best apply them, and yes it takes practice. I have gathered many tools in my life and they came from all the different activities I have done. One must only keep the eyes open and mind focused to absorb the world around them. As a substitute teacher, I have learned to accomodate my teaching style to the environment in which I teach, as well as teaching age appropriate lessons.
