I have worked as a tutor throughout my undergraduate career and also for a part of my high school career as well (5 years in all). My tutor experience is primarily in math and chemistry, but I also have experience in other science courses (biology & physics), English and reading, and also in general study habits and study skills. I love meeting and interacting with new people, children and adults alike. I have extreme patience. I believe that it is imperative to make the student feel comfortable in the learning environment. I would never embarrass a student for asking a question. So many times in the past, I have witnessed teachers ridiculing students for asking a question because they genuinely did not understand the subject matter, which prevented the students from asking any more questions in class. It is also important to know why the student, or his or her parents, believes that he or she needs a tutor.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching experience includes traditional classroom single-discipline settings, as well as non-traditional field work, with students Pre-K to Secondary. I have lead (wildlife and water) research projects with students and teachers, and have participated on research projects with university professors, through Earthwatch and Keystone Science School. I was a museum educator at Boston Museum of Science and awarded "Rookie of the Year," teaching the concepts of air and flight to Elementary School Students. Using household objects to perform hands-on experiments is one of my strong-suits. Learning starts with learing about oneself and how you best perform. It is very similar to sports, you start off learning the techniques and then you must learn how you best apply them, and yes it takes practice. I have gathered many tools in my life and they came from all the different activities I have done. One must only keep the eyes open and mind focused to absorb the world around them. I believe that if given the answer the lesson is lost. Sometimes it is frustrating, but training wheels must never be confused with pushing the bike. The 'Ah ha' moment can only be earned not given. All children are different and more they learn about what makes them different, the better prepared they are to know and deal with their strengths and weaknesses.
