I have a strong desire to use my abilities and interests as a professional educator. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Accounting. I have a strong math, reading and social sciences core subject background. Since January of 2010 I have been serving as a substitute teacher in both Pueblo city and county school districts. My teaching style includes patience, listening and determination. While teaching at C.S. Lewis I not only taught but also learned. I believe that with children patience is necessary and primary. Then while you may be the teacher you also have to listen in order to instruct properly. Finally being determined because in teaching you have to not allow yourself to give up. Many times students become frustrated and want to quite, you have to be an example of not giving up. If you do this they will see you as an example and learn this behavior. Thus teaching by example, kids are sponges imitating adults and peers. I love children and enjoy working with them. I feel as if each child is different and unique in thier own way, thus when faced with a subject that is more challenging than another it is understandable. During my college years, at Colorado College, while obtaining my education minor and majoring in history, I was able to tutor young children that were having reading problems in elementary school. I have also done some student teaching in a 9th grade geography class. Also, I student taught an 8th grade language arts class, where I was able to incorporate art with literature, stressing the importance of art in the classroom. Recently, I was able to hold a position with a company called Science Matters- it is an elementary after-school program with a focus on science. My introduction to teaching occurred when I was selected by two university departments to be a Graduate Assistant. Among my many duties were the presentation of classes and the grading of papers. As an officer in the United States Army I have been responsible for training and teaching at many levels. As a new lieutenant I directly supervised the training of a team of nine young soldiers. In my latest military position the documents that my organization created will affect the training of thousands of soldiers over several decades.
