A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is one that is student centered. When I first meet a child, my priority becomes to learn what teaching style best fits them. I do this through the use of Howard Gardener's Multiple Intelligences. I hold high expectations for all students and reward effort. I am strict, but also fair and kind. I believe that every child is different and should be treated as such.
I have been tutoring and teaching children since high school in my Teacher's Academy class at Lakota East High School. I love helping children learn new things. I get so excited when I see the "light bulb" go off. I love to find different ways to teach children to learn old things. As a parent concerned about the condition of the public school system we decided to homeschool our last two children. I began teaching them in the first grade and have continued up to, and including, the present time. My son is now a high school freshman and my daughter is in the eighth grade. During this time I helped start a homeschool cooperative. We wanted to continue homeschooling our children, but we also wanted to provide them with more choices taught by someone experienced, or having an expertise in an area. The most important thing to me in teaching anyone anything is finding out what level they are currently at. In order to learn something, take something in and understand it, one must have something already to attach it to in their minds.
