I find out what exactly the student is lacking in the subject by asking a few basic questions on the topic and make a judgement of the student's understanding on the topic and then proceed forward. I normally explain the concepts in diagrams so that it makes it easier for the student to visualize the problem and give the student plenty of practice problems for him/her to work on to make their understanding better

My comments on tutoring Math : Elementary math. 3 years experience teaching/ tutoring elementary math.

It is my belief that making learning and the material fun and understandable is the most important thing I can do. Once the experience of learning is fun, grades will rise as well. This means lots of discussion and hand on activities to help students learn necessary concepts. For English this often means reading material and writing prompts about subjects that the student is interested in as well as assistance with school materials.
