Special Education is one of my top subjects!

Taught in Greenwood and Greenville county schools 12 years. I taught reading recovery, resource, and self contained classrooms. Before that I was an ABA line therapist for students with autism. I have a degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in Special Education. I am certified as a Elementary and Special Education teacher through the SC state Department of Education. I now own my own tutoring business Shining Stars Tutoring LLC.
I do not ever yell or scare my students into behaving the way I have seen many teachers do. With many students this does not work. I respect my students and in turn they respect me. This creates an atmosphere where students want to behave for me.

Experienced Tutor

I enjoy teaching and working with children. While I believe that all children can learn, they do so in their own ways and at their own pace. It is the tutor’s responsibility to ensure that the student(s) understand the material. It is important to show students how one idea builds on the last. I will help your child learn the material in his/her own way. I consider myself to be patient, non-judgmental, and knowledgeable of the subject matter. I truly believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. I am very proud of the kind letters of thanks that I have received from parents of some of my students this year.
As an engineer and I have taught planners and engineers how to use software to do calculations. I have taught GRE preparation for Kaplan (analytical and verbal reasoning) both to small classes of 3 to 7 ... read more

Individualized learning/teaching for optimal comprehension

I started tutoring as a young adult helping young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders develop English and Math skills as well as speech therapy and public speaking. I tutored my fellow students while attending Carroll Community College in English 101 and 102 and Creative Writing. I have worked with every age group from 6 weeks to 21 years old as a teacher, a behavioral therapist, and a tutor.
I take a hands on material approach to learning/teaching. I feel that young students learn best when they can physically interact with the materials, such as through blocks/puzzles/interactive learning devices and other similar approaches. I try to let the student use their hands as much as possible to aid their learning process. For older students such as my high school students or their college counterparts, I use more direct audial teaching and visual teaching styles. Every person learn ... read more

My comments on tutoring Special Education : Any age student functioning at K-3rd level. Full knowledge of IEP's.

I have been teaching and tutoring for 17 years. I am certified by the school board of Brevard County in Education K-12, Special Education, Art,and hold a Bachelors Degree. Although I enjoyed my classroom, I love the one on one relationships built by tutoring. I have been blessed to have had some very special teachers who gave me confidence, success, and a lifelong love of learning and can't wait to inspire that in your child.
Every child and adult learn differently. Finding the specific tools that match the individual person is an amazing feeling and gives the student success so they experience less frustration and enjoy learning more.

Special Education is one of my top subjects! I have worked with a number of different students with various diagnoses including autism, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and more. I don't believe in"learning disabilities"because it indicates one is "unable" to learn. This is not the case. Students learn in their own way and I get to help discover how my students learn along with them. This is the advantage of being a tutor rather than a classroom teacher of 25 Students. Teachers must provide the teaching methods that help promote the learning process in the majority of Students. 20/25 may benefit and the rest are labled "disabled"

I am a licensed Social worker with tutoring experience in and out of college. I have the most experience in tutoring Algebra and other math. I have a student now that I am helping with AP English who has dyslexia. I enjoy watching her grammar skills increase and her overall understanding of the concepts develop. I am great with any age individual and have the patience it takes to work with any kind of student (special needs included).
I believe that people learn the best when they understand the meaning and logic behind what they are learning. When a student can see a pattern develop they develop an understanding that can be universally applied to many different areas of study and life circumstances. Learning is different then memorizing. It is especially important to understand the concepts behind the subject matter when planning continue in a similar learning subject.

Assistant Teacher; Dedicated and Supportive Tutor

Throughout my undergraduate career, I have tutored fellow students in my major, designing tools to help them succeed on exams and assignments. In addition, students taking various courses have asked me to edit their papers and guide their studying. Outside the realm of college, I have previously been an assistant teacher for early intervention and preschool children. I am currently an assistant teacher for elementary school students. I enjoy working with people, and I enjoy using my strong academic abilities to help others succeed in school. I consider myself a friendly and down-to-earth person, eager to give over my positivity, dedication and support to those that I work with.
