I am a High School Student at Legend High School I am a level 8 gymnast so weekends are the only time I have open. I love working with younger kids. I have worked with younger kids in Science fields before and their grades have gone up on an average of 4%. Let the young teach the young

I am fun and relaxed, but know how to get down to the point. I make my teaching easy to understand.
Even though I am young, I do know how to convey teaching skills with the "up-to-date" mind set of today's generation. The main experience I have is helping fellow school mates and family with the problems they are having with school work. I did finish high school with a diploma. I have been to many schools and have had many teachers. I have been able to learn many techniques of solving a single problem.

More About This Tutor...

As the Title I Math Specialist at Peyton Elementary for three years, I had the opportunity to work with struggling learners as well as high achieving students in a small classroom setting. This on-the-job experience combined with numerous professional development credits earned in various areas such as differentiated instruction, math/literature connections, and mathematics pedagogy as well as two years of service on Peyton Elementary's "Child Study" team gave me the necessary background to be able to identify individual student needs and tailor lessons to address those needs. Over the past two years, I have been able to apply the above skills in a one-on-one setting through private tutoring of elementary age students in both math and reading.
I have a caring and mutually respectful relationship with students. I am very creative in my lesson planning, often use hands-on activities, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

From the time I was in 4th grade, I have always had a strong passion to teach our young people and assist in developing the next generation that will run this country. Being deeply inspired by multiple teachers throughout my schooling, I too have wanted to make the same type of impact on children. Good teachers are the ones who wake up everyday excited to expand young minds and challenge them to strive for their potential. Seeing that "light bulb" go off when a child learns something that they have struggled with is one of the greatest joys in life. Every child deserves a chance to learn in a safe and encouraging environment; I believe in providing this through individual interactions with each one.
I have always wanted to teach. While in high school, I spent half of my school day being a teacher's assistance at an elementary school. I started my college experience at Adams State C ... read more

I recently completed two years of teaching Physical Science in a secondary school in Namibia as a Peace Corps volunteer. Prior to that I earned a BS in Computer Science which included a mathematics minor and courses in physics and chemistry. I tutored throughout my time in the Peace Corps, my undergraduate studies and my high school years.
As a classroom teacher I quickly learned to engage each student individually. I prefer tutoring because I can tailor my instruction to a specific student. Children have different learning styles so it is my responsibility as the instructor to adapt lessons to maximize learning for each child. Ideally I am able to guide a student to realize concepts in their own terms rather then dictate facts to them.

I think good class materials, sufficient examples and explanations are important for effective learning. I believe it is the responsibility of the teacher to tutor students in an interesting and engaging manner. The teaching should show the elegance and beauty of the subject as well as its applicability to solve concrete and real world problems. Teaching is not just instructing or imparting information to students, but it is meant to empower students to take responsibility for their learning. While students must ultimately take responsibility for their own learning, a teacher can often inspire them to learn. As a teacher, I prefer to use my enthusiasm to help students get involved in the subject. Even when discussing hard scientific terms, I explain them with day to day things and analogies making it easy for the students to absorb. I am devoted to getting to know my students, like know ... read more

I have graduated from Iowa State University with a major in Finance and minor in Statistics. I have a strong background in math and have taken up to Calculus II. I have experience tutoring Calculus and Statistics at the college level for five semesters. Working with students is something I really enjoy. I have experience working with a non-profit organization at the college level and another one at the elementary school level. I also have mentored children and worked with them at my churches.
Every person is different and requires a unique style for learning. I have used many different styles in my experiences, and I tend to use the one that works the best for that individual. Some are visual learners while others need to learn by trial and error. I am easy going, flexible, and patient. I am a warm and friendly teacher. Students are encouraged in whatever manner works best for them individually. For many, this takes the form of a friendly, cajoling encouragement. Others need reassurance of their capabilities. Regardless of the student, I find that success feeds their success. I try to find out what is of interest to my students, and to present the material as it relates to that interest. This keeps them motivated to listen and to learn. As they learn, I make sure they realize that they have experienced success. Encouragement and reinforcement of achievements are central to my interactions with every one of my students. I truly believe that, with the right approach and reinforcement of what they've learned, all students are capable of achieving their goals.
