A Little Bit About Me...

From the time I was in 4th grade, I have always had a strong passion to teach our young people and assist in developing the next generation that will run this country. Being deeply inspired by multiple teachers throughout my schooling, I too have wanted to make the same type of impact on children. Good teachers are the ones who wake up everyday excited to expand young minds and challenge them to strive for their potential. A Little Bit About Me...

As a classroom teacher I quickly learned to engage each student individually. I prefer tutoring because I can tailor my instruction to a specific student. Children have different learning styles so it is my responsibility as the instructor to adapt lessons to maximize learning for each child. Ideally I am able to guide a student to realize concepts in their own terms rather then dictate facts to them.
I recently completed two years of teaching Physical Science in a secondary school in Namibia as a Peace Corps volunteer. Prior to that I earned a BS in Computer Science which included a mathematics minor and courses in physics and chemistry. I tutored throughout my time in the Peace Corps, my undergraduate studies and my high school years.

I think good class materials, sufficient examples and explanations are important for effective learning. I believe it is the responsibility of the teacher to tutor students in an interesting and engaging manner. The teaching should show the elegance and beauty of the subject as well as its applicability to solve concrete and real world problems. Teaching is not just instructing or imparting information to students, but it is meant to empower students to take responsibility for their learning. While students must ultimately take responsibility for their own learning, a teacher can often inspire them to learn.
