As a classroom teacher I quickly learned to engage each student individually. I prefer tutoring because I can tailor my instruction to a specific student. Children have different learning styles so it is my responsibility as the instructor to adapt lessons to maximize learning for each child. Ideally I am able to guide a student to realize concepts in their own terms rather then dictate facts to them.
I recently completed two years of teaching Physical Science in a secondary school in Namibia as a Peace Corps volunteer. Prior to that I earned a BS in Computer Science which included a mathematics minor and courses in physics and chemistry. My first academic teaching experience started in the fifth grade, when my teacher asked me to help my classmates after school. Slowly my love of teaching and helping my classmates grew. Later I was asked to give lessons to my classmates during school hours. I started my own tutoring service for school children in my college days. During my Ph.D. program, I taught several undergraduate and graduate courses in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. I have earned my Bachelor's and master's degrees in biochemistry and my PhD is in Biochmeistry-Genetics. I have graduated from Iowa State University with a major in Finance and minor in Statistics. I have a strong background in math and have taken up to Calculus II.
