My comments on tutoring Trigonometry : Covering sine, cosine and tangent functions especially in problem-solving. Laws of sines and cosines. Use of radians and solving problems with TI-83 calculator. Cover periodic functions with varying amplitudes, and graphing all functions.

I try to present each subject area as a sample problem and show EXACTLY how a solution is reached. Then I invite the student's participation with a view toward understanding the student's thinking. While accuracy in math is vital, understanding the steps involved is crucial.
Eight years of tutoring math subjects for middle school and high school students. I have a keen interest in math and have always enjoyed helping students grasp the essence of a problem and its mathematical solution. I worked for many years in the corporate world, designing and programming mid-range and large scale computers.

My major complaint with the current pedagogy of STEM fields is there focus on teaching students to be able to produce answers so a slew of canned and frankly uninteresting problem sets. There is so much interesting literature, philosophy, and history in the fields of science and physics that it makes very little sense to muddle with these less helpful and dull techniques and problems. Physics and math education has become so perforated with cliche that shows like Cosmos and the elegant universe can become hits by just regurgitating the same buzz-theories (Schrodinger's cat, Black holes, the multiverse etc.) in the same, cloddish language (space-time is 'warped' and twisted, quantum 'weirdness', etc). This lack of original language and analogy is not a semantical issue; it's suggestive of the philistine cleaving of the sciences from the arts and it's very disturbing -- these truly awesome ... read more

Teaching Math in English and Russian.

I am a professional teacher. I have 15 years of experience teaching. I have taught Math and Computer Science in college. Also I have taught in both public and private school systems. I have experience private tutoring for students in school, college and also university. I do understand that all students learn at different degrees but they all can learn better. So I am always teaching my students with considering their individual characteristics. I enjoy teaching because I very often hear from my students that they really start to understand Math or Computer Science better only when I take them to learn. Working one-on-one with a student is a great opportunity to really focus on the individual characteristics and academic needs of the student and helping them to be more successful in learning.

One on one or group. Lessons taught, homework assigned, then follow up of homework assignment.
My experience, (both academic and work)has been widely varied, ranging from research and engineering to financial management in a corporate environment, followed by golf course design and landscape management. In addition I used my experience in construction and woodworking to build and market patio furniture. Unfortunately the housing depression of the mid 2000's caused the business to be non profitable and was closed. Since 2005 I have been semi retired and used my construction experience to work at a lumber and hardware store.

A Little Bit About Me...

When I was in second grade my family moved from the U.S. to Ireland and it was there that I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics. I have always had an interest in health and science and so, on returning to the U.S., I took many courses in Biology, and Anatomy & Physiology. It is clear that I have always had an interest in working with children in some way. Over the years I have taught religious education, I ran a Brownie troop, and most recently I worked as a teacher’s assistant at New Gate Montessori School and TLC childcare.
I believe all children have different ways of learning. It will be my job to discover what approach works best for your child. I might describe myself as patient, easy going, and fun. My goal is to make learning enjoyable, and to promote a true love of learning. I believe that every teacher or tutor has an opportunity to influence your chil ... read more

I love to tutor and work with students of all ages. Every student has their own learning style that must be found to help the student efficiently and substantially. I want to provide the best education possible by learning about the student and finding the best way to display topics to them. Every student already possesses the potential to succeed in any academic field; they just need great teachers, good study partners, great learning environments, and many learning experiences. I try to present material in a fashion that will hold the students interest and I also like to use visual aids. Learning must be made fun for the student for them to absorb the greatest amount of knowledge that they can!

My philosophy for teaching math is to use a variety of methods that scaffold and develop students’ higher-order thinking skills. I view math not only a theoretic but also a practical and useful science that can be applied to real world as a means for reasoning and critical thinking and problem solving. My goal as a math tutor is to equip students with basic knowledge and to enlighten their own logical thinking that enable them to effectively solve problems that seem beyond their capabilities by skillfully finding inner linkage (between math theories) and applying to outer linkage (real world).
I have owned a master of science degree in mechanical engineering which involving in lots advanced mathmatics and physics. As a senior engineer I have extensive experiences in applying math, physics and engineering knowledge to analyze, design and development of real world products ... read more

My best trait as a tutor is that I will not give up on my student, even if they have given up on themselves. It is my belief that most concepts can be understood if taught properly, and relate the knowledge to them in a way that would make it simple. Through my experiences with my children I have acquired personal satisfaction from teaching. It is definitely very rewarding to see them gain confidence and understand a concept, especially after seeing them struggle with it.
I have a good understanding in math and its applications. I do not have formal tutoring experience as an adult, but have taken a break from my career in business to stay home and take care of my children, currently 5 and 7 years old. I have helped my daughter with most of her math concepts and homework and she is one of the best in her class, and I have helped both with their English and Spanish vocabulary an ... read more

Being a special education teacher I understand completely that every student can learn, however they simply do it in a variety of ways. I like to teach to the different senses in the classroom-See it, Say it, and then do it. Not every student can sit and listen to a teacher explain something verbally, they need to experience it. When I work with a student one on one I try and find out what their particular learning style is, what their interests are, and use those in my teaching. Learning should be fun! There is nothing wrong with smiling while you are engaged in the learning process.
Being a Finance graduate I have a strong foundation in mathematics. I have also taken additional courses at MCC up through Calculus 2 and have received my middle grades mathematics certification and ESE K-12 certification.
