Eight years of tutoring math subjects for middle school and high school students. I have a keen interest in math and have always enjoyed helping students grasp the essence of a problem and its mathematical solution. I worked for many years in the corporate world, designing and programming mid-range and large scale computers.
I try to present each subject area as a sample problem and show EXACTLY how a solution is reached. Then I invite the student's participation with a view toward understanding the student's thinking. While accuracy in math is vital, understanding the steps involved is crucial.

A Little Bit About Me...

I entered Virginia Tech as an honors math and physics student and graduated in three years with my BS in physics. At the moment I am trying to decide if I would like to go to grad school to continue on to something else, hopefully with math and physic as at least peripherally relevant. I have never taught a class and have tutored in only in a limited capacity. I however was apart of Virginia Tech's first Physics education class and program and found that I really actually enjoy teaching for teaching's sake. I hope that my limited experience won't scare people away; I am very passionate about these subjects and I would enjoy building up my experience and resume so that I can become an even better educator.

I do not have formal tutoring experience as an adult, but have taken a break from my career in business to stay home and take care of my children, currently 5 and 7 years old. I have helped my daughter with most of her math concepts and homework and she is one of the best in her class, and I have helped both with their English and Spanish vocabulary and pronunciation. A Little Bit About Me...

As an athlete with the right background I knew it was also important to not only challenge my body but my mind too. I decided to major in mathematics to break the stigma of the "dumb athlete". I was driven and dedicated to finish my degree in a timely fashion. I could not have done it without the tutors I had so it would be hypocritical if I did not give back.
I have a laid back teaching style where I encourage kids to put their best foot forward and challenge themselves. I believe trial and error is one of the best ways to learn, especially in math.
