I recently retired from Portville Central School after teaching 31 years here in New York State. I am certified in Biology/Gene Science, Chemistry, and Physics. I was a mentor for the State Education Department for 10 years and have attended conferences all over the country for both chemistry and physics techniques and new practices. I am fluent with computers and use Vernier interfaces and probes to collect and analyze data for both subject areas. I teach chemistry and physics part time at Archbishop Walsh Academy at the present and I am seeking new experiences for the afternoon and evenings.

I get to touch up on materials that the children are learning, as well as learn better ways to educate students. Patience is what I believe is the most important aspect of teaching. Children can become unfocused very easily. When children are distracted it may be very difficult to get them focused. Taking your time and making sure they refocus, can actually save time. My teaching style is to have a set of problems made up for the students to observe as examples to help understand certain chapters. I will assign additional problems if needed and focus on the subject matter that is the hardest for the individual to understand.

This allows the students to get a brief introduction to the day’s material before they work in groups on questions about the material.
