A Little Bit About Me...

My approach to teaching students mathematics is to first ensure they understand the basics. In my experience, students typically have trouble learning new material because they have not mastered the previous material, which is typically a prerequisite to understanding the new material. I believe with enough time spent on the basics, any student can learn more advanced mathematical concepts. Once I feel their understanding of the previous material is strong, I walk them through example problems and then have them solve increasingly difficult problems on their own. However, I am very flexible with my teaching methods; if they have trouble with this model, I am willing to try different things to ensure they are learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of one of the top state schools in New York, I have always believed in the importance of education. I have a BA in art studio, 2 years of biology/chemistry, and Calculus I&II, which has given me a well rounded education. I have also developed a higher level of writing skills through my research papers and laboratory write-ups. My latin classes have given me a better understanding of vocabulary and the derivatives of different languages from latin. The past year I have been studying chemical and physical aspects of my visual arts. I find ways to be diverse in the way I learn.
Teaching and working with children not only educates them but it educates myself in the process. During my past three years at St. John Fisher College I have been actively engaged in the chemistry department. I have been exposed to various teaching types, one being active learning within a group. This has allowed me to develop teaching skills by explaining my ideas on the subject to my group, while learning the material at the same time. Also, for the past two years I have been an individual tutor for students taking introduction to chemistry.
