I was a mentor for the State Education Department for 10 years and have attended conferences all over the country for both chemistry and physics techniques and new practices. Teaching and working with children not only educates them but it educates myself in the process. I get to touch up on materials that the children are learning, as well as learn better ways to educate students. Patience is what I believe is the most important aspect of teaching. Children can become unfocused very easily. When children are distracted it may be very difficult to get them focused. Taking your time and making sure they refocus, can actually save time. This allows the students to get a brief introduction to the day’s material before they work in groups on questions about the material.
