College Algebra Tutors & Teachers for Lessons, Instruction or Help in Rapelje, MT

I recently retired from teaching but have a love of math and working with students. Presently that makes accessible to tutor students any time day or night. I believe that my patience is my biggest strength in working with students having difficulties in math. My experiences over the years has taught me that not every student learns the same way so that same material must be presented in variety of ways until the student gets it. It is my goal to provide a positive learning experience to all students I work with. I have 34 years of middle school and high school math teaching experience of which the last 24 have been at LHS in Laurel, MT. The last few years I have been the Head of the Math Department during which time I was instrumental in getting a math lab started at our high school. I have enough math credits to be a high school math teacher, although I am not an accredited teacher. I am a consulting engineer, but have always enjoyed teaching. I have been substitute teaching for mostly high school math the last 3 years. I have been in the engineering field since 1989. I always enjoy my days in the school and teaching. I feel that I am good at teaching. It is what I spent my first 2 years of college studying before switching to engineering. I make sure the kids feel safe in their environment, so learning becomes the primary focus. I try to make learning fun and try to show the students that it isn't really that difficult.

I have educated both college and middle school students, and through these experiences I learned that the key to effectively teaching others is patience. I guide my students but do not do the work for them. Most students have the ability to learn the material being instructed to them. By being patient, I give the students the opportunity to problem solve on their own, which ultimately builds confidence. With more confidence, students seem to learn better. I believe this is the key to mastering any academic subject. I recently graduated college with a BA in Human Biology, and I am currently in the transition between undergraduate school and medical school. I believe that students truly understand ideas and processes when they discover them independently; rote memorization does not instill thinking skills. To be a well-rounded academic, students must learn to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to work through problems and issues based on broad concepts and rules. Pupils must learn and memorize certain rules and concepts as a matter of course, but it is the ability to take these ideas and apply them to many topics, often with help and guidance, that makes a true critical thinker. I strive to intercede and guide students when necessary to push them through the barriers to fully realizing how concepts apply to different problems and situations.
