I began working with pre-k age group as a lead teacher for the four year olds room. After leaving that placement I started working with high school aged students as a substitute. Working with these young adults reinforced my belief that if a student does not have the basic skills learned early in their education, it is very difficult to go back and relearn them. Reading was always my favorite subject; math not so much. I believe strongly children need manipulatives and hands on experiences with math. I wish they had ten frames when I was learning addition and subtraction. I love teaching math in K-2 now and making it concrete vs abstract.
