Elementary Math is one of my top subjects! Reading was always my favorite subject; math not so much. I believe strongly children need manipulatives and hands on experiences with math. I wish they had ten frames when I was learning addition and subtraction. I love teaching math in K-2 now and making it concrete vs abstract. I also like relating it to stories that talk about numbers and problems and having children use art to represent their understanding of the story. It's so much fun this way!

I currently have a Florida Teaching Certificate, 17 yrs. teaching in PreK - 2nd grade, and 4 yrs. tutoring. I have always loved being around young children. It was no surprise that I ended up pursuing an Early Childhood Education Bachelor's and Master's Degree. Since I moved to Florida, I have spent time volunteering in Kindergarten classrooms, substituting in K-5 classrooms, and I was even offered an extended subbing position in a Kindergarten classroom. My tutor experience began with a private company for 2 yrs. and now I find my own jobs through Care.com for the last 2 yrs. I believe a solid foundation is the key th success.

I began working with pre-k age group as a lead teacher for the four year olds room. After leaving that placement I started working with high school aged students as a substitute. Working with these young adults reinforced my belief that if a student does not have the basic skills learned early in their education, it is very difficult to go back and relearn them. I have worked with all age groups over the last seven years. I enjoy the elementary age level the most because I believe that a solid foundation is the key to successful learning.

Elementary Math is one of my top subjects!

I like to be fun. I don't want to be the teacher/tutor that nobody likes. I want kids to be excited to see me every day. I want to be the guy that 20 years from now, they look back on their lives and remember me and what I was able to do for them.
Have never tutored anyone before aside from helping my younger sister with her homework. I completed high school with a 3.5 GPA and am currently preparing to start my 2nd year of community college. Math has always been my best subject. In 11th grade I was enrolled in Algebra II honors, I then took a pre-college algebra course in 12th grade, took a similar course my first semester of college, and then took college algebra. I learned to read when I was 3 or 4 which was earlier than most people I was around. I finished in 16th place in my 5th grade spelling bee finals. Would have gone farther but I mistook course for coarse.

I try to serve as a facilitator of learning, providing students with the knowledge and tools to solve problems and then encouraging students to solve them on their own. When students answer a problem incorrectly, I do not allow them to quit. I try to encourage them to figure out where they went wrong and to keep working at the problem until they get the correct answer, providing support and guidance where needed

My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : I love teaching math and believe in using lots of hands on things to help students understand what they are doing. I also believe students neede to memorize the basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts.

As I graduated from college with my California State Teaching Credential,I was able to teach 2nd grade for the Los Angeles City School District for three years.
