My comments on tutoring Genetics : Received an A+ in Genetics at Clemson University in the Fall of 2010

I am a visual learner and work well with other visual learners. I simplify the topic for the student for easy explanation and understanding, so we can then build upon the foundation for more in-depth understanding. I enjoy using diagrams and still have all of my resources from high school and college to utilize.
I have a passion for teaching others and spreading my knowledge- I enjoy not only helping a student to understand, but to also become a mentor. I have been tutoring since middle school, and throughout high school. Since I have been in college, I have been eager to tutor again. My knowledge is mostly in high school and college biology, anatomy, and physiology. Throughout college, many of my friends and classmates came to me with questions or help, because I am good at simplifying the material and making it understandable on a basic level.

I do not have current experience teaching or tutoring for pay. I did some tutoring of high school students and fellow classmates while I was in college. Since then, I have been the "go-to" person in my family for help with math and science. I tutored one of my sisters in her classes at St Charles Community College. She graduated with an Associates degree in AutoCAD last year. I helped her with all her cad, math, physics, and engineering classes. From 2002 thru 2008, I tutored one of my nieces through her junior high and high school math and science classes. Many college freshmen struggle with Biology 101. While some universities have services to students, not all institutions are fortunate enough to give their students free access to tutoring. Therefore, I believe that it is important to set a solid foundation for the sciences in both middle and high school levels. Having the opportunity to tutor would allow me not only to share my knowledge and passion for biology, but also allow me to engage with younger peers. I have a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from West Virginia University. I also played football in college and was active in tutoring fellow players. My course load was heavy in chemistry, physics, biology, and biochemistry. I have also taken the MCATs in preparation for medical school and scored a 36 (98th percentile), so I am also qualified to assist students in MCAT preparation.
I have a laid back style of teaching. I like to simplify difficult concepts and explain in different terms in order to help the student understand it. I am very good at presenting information in a different way in order to make difficult concepts easier.
