My comments on tutoring Earth Science : Earth Sciences includes: Physical Geography and Geology, Geology is one of my two majors.

I like students to understand how the material they are learning can and is being applied to everyday situations. So I often will talk about the big topics that have been covered explain why they are useful and then show the student how to perform various calculations or apply the nessecary logic to solve problems.

I believe everyone can do mathematics. It just has to be explained to the student in a way so that he can relate to it. I believe in presenting the material in several different ways so that it can be understood. A Little Bit About Me...

While substitute teaching various subjects, I discovered my hidden talent – making math understandable for youth. My other gifts include excellent grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehension skills. I don’t have a teacher’s certificate, however, and am currently choosing not to substitute, but I miss the personal interaction with students who want to learn.
Giving a student the answer does not facilitate their learning. My style of tutoring and teaching is to reinforce the basics, ask leading questions and give examples that assist the student discover the correct answers for him or herself.

I love working with children and young adults. My challenge as a tutor is to take something that is difficult and make it fun and understandable. Too often students look at teachers or adults as enemies, and I try to take a very laid-back, conversational approach when tutoring.
