I retired after 35 years of teaching, and I am currently substitute teaching. Through the years I have tutored privately students ranging from kindergarten to high school. I also teach piano. I love discovering each individual student and the way to help them learn. My favorite part about teaching is the moment of sudden understanding that you can see in a student's eyes when they've got it. The challenge, of course, is getting to that moment, especially in a subject like math or science. While certain subjects may come easier to some people than to others, I do not believe that anyone is "incapable" of understanding and excelling in any field of study. If understanding is lacking, that is only because the student needs to be presented the material in a way that makes sense to them. I am most suited to teach beginning-intermediate students. For me, teaching isn't about pounding new material into their head, it's about helping them understand the material they're given and actually having fun learning. That's why my teaching style is all about fun and retention.
