My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : I was horrible in phonics when I was young. Wish is why I am very passionate about helping children learn to read. There is a learning sequence to be followed, with a strong emphasis on letter sounds to help children be successful. Sorting and phonics games are used often with my students as well. I have lots of experience in this area (K-2).

I currently have a Florida Teaching Certificate, 17 yrs. teaching in PreK - 2nd grade, and 4 yrs. tutoring. I have always loved being around young children. It was no surprise that I ended up pursuing an Early Childhood Education Bachelor's and Master's Degree. Since I moved to Florida, I have spent time volunteering in Kindergarten classrooms, substituting in K-5 classrooms, and I was even offered an extended subbing position in a Kindergarten classroom. My tutor experience began with a private company for 2 yrs. and now I find my own jobs through Care.com for the last 2 yrs. Even though I miss working with children in the classroom, I have really enjoyed the one to one tutoring sessions so much more. From a very early age, I have always been connected with teaching children. I knew that this was what I wanted to do, influence a child’s life, and there couldn’t be a better way to do it. I was an elementary education major for 2.5 years before following my specific passion to writing and literature in my Junior year to finish up school. My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : I have always believed phonics is the key to reading and have taught it for many years. In the past 15 years I taught ABEKA phonics in my classes and have seen students learn to read quickly.

As I graduated from college with my California State Teaching Credential,I was able to teach 2nd grade for the Los Angeles City School District for three years. During that time I sought to gain as much experience and expertise as possible to prepare me for teaching in a school for missionary children overseas. I studied Spanish intensively for a year in Mexico preparing me to work in Santiago, Chile where I taught first and second grade for almost 40 years. I am fluent in Spanish and have taught English as as second language.
