I am first and foremost a teacher/learning facilitator, and secondly a computer lover. As a teacher I am sequential in learning points, and creative in presentation. During my three years of formal tutoring, I was able to change my tutoring styles to fit the needs of the student. Everyone learns differently and it is important to realize and adjust my tutoring accordingly.
During the last three years of my undergraduate college career, I was a Mathematics tutor for student athletes. Although the courses covered while tutoring ranged from basic math to calculus, I am more comfotable tutoring algebra and geometry. As a mechanical engineer I have been doing applied calculus and physics since I started school. As an undergraduate I was a peer mentor to the freshman engineers. We taught the students to juggle both figuratively and literally. It was especially rewarding because I had been in their situation only a few years before. On my breaks from school I often tutored my best friends little brother in Algebra. I can honestly say that I taught him a semester worth of algebra (twice) in only a few days. I also mentored undergraduates while working for the NSF funded Center for High-Rate Nanomanufacturing. I helped them research specific projects during their time (over the summer) working with us.

A Little Bit About Me...

In my past I have taught many years as a tennis instructor and ski instructor. I also taught at a Federal correctional Institution in Englewood, Colorado in their Education Department in 1990 and 1991. i tutored inmates for their 8th grade equivalency as well as several others through their GED's. In 2002 through 2004 I also was the training officer for Star West Aviation. My teaching style was, and always has been to use humor and patience to bring my students along and to achieve where they had failed in the past. I found, especially in the prison system, that people achieve best when you make the work interesting and also within the student's ability. I am going to be a senior in college studying Civil Engineering, and am currently taking some time off to gain work and travel experience. I just returned from a year long trip around Australia and New Zealand, and this only confirmed my love of travel and exploration. I started tutoring in High School, as part of our "Link Leader" program. After my junior year in High School, I spent 8 weeks living in Nicaragua with a host family. I became involved in many daily activities, including helping my host sisters with their homework in the evenings.
