A Little Bit About Me...

My experience with tutoring ranges from being tutored in middle school at Sylvan Learning Center (due to not being challenged enough in my private school classroom) to tutoring fellow classmates and my friends' younger siblings in a range of subjects during high school and college. I have extensive experience instructing and guiding 12 through 17 year olds from working as a camp counselor for three consecutive summers. The nature of my double major in religion and philosophy from Calvin College dictated that the bulk of my coursework focused on abstract thinking, theoretical reasoning, and argumentative essay writing. The liberal arts collegiate curriculum I pursued included calculus and metaphysics among other challenging and broadening courses. More About This Tutor...

During the last three years of my undergraduate college career, I was a Mathematics tutor for student athletes. Although the courses covered while tutoring ranged from basic math to calculus, I am more comfotable tutoring algebra and geometry. I earned my BA with a double major in Mathematics and Russian in just four years. After college, I helped my sister and step-sister with their math and math-related physcis problems.
During my three years of formal tutoring, I was able to change my tutoring styles to fit the needs of the student. Everyone learns differently and it is important to realize and adjust my tutoring accordingly.

In 1975 I had been teaching tennis for the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department for a year and elected to attend a teaching clinic at Coto de Caza California conducted by the Vic Braden Tennis College. Since then I worked for the City of Boulder as a tennis instructor for 7 more years and I coached tennis to individual tennis players, mostly promising junior players, for an additional 4 years. After a short period of retirement from tennis, I took a job with the Bureau of Prisons in Englewood, Colorado, as a tutor in their Education Department. In that capacity I tutored adult inmates to achieve their 8th grade equivalency and I convinced several to go beyond that level to reach their GED. Working with inmates was a very rewarding experience. I also taught for Flatirons Country Club for a season in 1993, and for Devil's Thumb Tennis Club the following year.
