My teaching style varies upon subject and student. I graduated from Jefferson High School in the spring of 2012. I now attend Indiana University-Purdue University in Fort Wayne. I have two younger siblings and 4 younger step-siblings that I have helped with their homework, or helped them better understand material assigned to them. Their ages range from 8-17. I know how to explain certain subjects in multiple ways to ensure that eventually the student will understand the material. I am very patient, and I understand that some people learn at slower rates than others. I am majoring in nursing, though I considered teaching English before making this decision. I graduated Cum Laude from Ball State with a double major in Visual Communication and Genetics. Both my parents were teachers and I often tutored my friends. I taught Swimming to children every summer for from 2001-2005, so I have experience with young children having a hard time paying attention. I have strong skills in science and math. At Purdue University I took all Engineering degree mathematics courses. In addition, I took five statistical cources, three of them were graduate level. At AlliedSignal, I received a week's training to teach three day courses in Total Quality Leadership to employees. Over the course of one year, I conducted twenty four courses with a partner facilitator. One company I worked for was a supplier to Caterpillar. In the course of mutual problem solving, I was able to be certified as a Green Belt. My teaching style is to provide several ways to solve a problem. Since learning is done in different ways, one of the solution methods will turn on a light bulb and the student will "get it". I bring additional materials and new ways to remember. My teaching style depends on the student. It takes some time to identify what methods work best on the individual. In most cases, the student just needs a clearer explanation than his/her book or instructor is providing. Also, I like to create visual examples that make an abstract concept into something more practical. A thorough explanation coupled with examples and practice, practice, practice usually prove to help tremendously. It's also important to listen to your student and to constantly test his/her knowledge of concepts as we progress. This helps to identify where the trouble areas are and to reassure that previous learning isn't lost, especially knowledge that is essential in building upon future concepts. My teaching style is that all students learn differently, so why to teach them using the same methods? I learned through college that I am a very visual learner, but if the class isn’t taught that way, it’s my job to present that information in a way that helps me learn.
