At Purdue University I took all Engineering degree mathematics courses. In addition, I took five statistical cources, three of them were graduate level. At AlliedSignal, I received a week's training to teach three day courses in Total Quality Leadership to employees. Over the course of one year, I conducted twenty four courses with a partner facilitator. One company I worked for was a supplier to Caterpillar. In the course of mutual problem solving, I was able to be certified as a Green Belt.
My teaching style is to provide several ways to solve a problem. Since learning is done in different ways, one of the solution methods will turn on a light bulb and the student will "get it". I bring additional materials and new ways to remember. Last fall I tutored a fifth grader in mathematics. I provided note cards for him in the various solution formulas.

A Little Bit About Me...

Every child wants to learn, although a more creative design may be needed to find a child's greatest potential. Patience, consideration, and encouraging words are simple tasks to help the self esteem of children in a child's education.
With a degree from Purdue University and continuing on to get a degree in engineering, I am engaged in many areas of science and math. Even at a young age I taught my younger sister basic mathematical and reading skills even before she entered kindergarten; we called it "school". The youngest, my brother, in which we are both diagnosed with ADHD, is amazing. I quickly learned to be patient with him when helping with his homework because I can see the same frustration on his face I had at his age when trying to concentrate on a difficult task.

My teaching style depends on the student. It takes some time to identify what methods work best on the individual. In most cases, the student just needs a clearer explanation than his/her book or instructor is providing. Also, I like to create visual examples that make an abstract concept into something more practical. A thorough explanation coupled with examples and practice, practice, practice usually prove to help tremendously. It's also important to listen to your student and to constantly test his/her knowledge of concepts as we progress. This helps to identify where the trouble areas are and to reassure that previous learning isn't lost, especially knowledge that is essential in building upon future concepts.
