Experience Summary
I have been a community college adjunct professor for the past 5 years, teaching physics and physical science. I have also tutored in the College Learning Center where I have helped students individually and in small groups in the subjects of physics, astronomy, chemistry and math. I have a BS in Astronomy and am also a graduate of Purdue University with a Master's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering.
Teaching Style
I believe that good teachers must truly like their subjects and also must care about whether or not their students really understand the material. They must find ways to motivate their students to learn and cultivate an interested in the subject. Students usually come to me very anxious and nervous about their physics, chemistry and math classes and I enjoy helping them overcome their anxiety and frustration about these difficult subjects. My goal is not to give answers, but rather to provide examples and methods that students can use to think through problems on their own and gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the subject that can translate to other classes, the workplace and life!
