It is NEVER too late to learn, nor right to learn only 1 way

I utilize kinesthetic learning and encourage parental involvement within the tutoring sessions.
I summarized my basic experience in the Policy Statement. To expand on that, I have over 20 apps on an android tablet that are for clients who need early intervention in the areas of educational subjects, speech/breathing techniques, social and emotional recognition and assistive communication. I have a child safety filter infiltrated into the device so that the clients receive only what is appropriate to their learning. They cannot access the settings on the device, nor the regular web. I honor parents' input on what they think is appropriate for their child.

The following are two of my favorite experiences with math tutoring. One high school sophomore was making a D in geometry and needed help studying for her first semester final exam. After I worked with her for only three hours she missed making a B by one percentage point and never made less than a B on any subsequent quizzes or tests under my tutelage. Another middle school girl actually cried when she first had to work with the concept of estimating. In this case I set aside the prescribed materials, created several new estimating concepts and within fifteen minutes she was laughing and suggesting additional estimation applications with the new materials. I find that teaching works best if you tailor the material to your audience - i.e. you don't want to lose them OR bore them. Use what they know as a foundation to build on to teach new concepts. If material is difficult or unfamiliar to your class it's important to be prepared in advance with several approaches to get the material across. Review material periodically to reinforce confidence in the students and always make sure they have a firm grasp on material before moving on.

I have tutored math twice, in two different environments. The first time was to native Spanish speakers who were studying to earn their GED. Tutoring was done in small groups, once or twice per week. We covered everything ranging from two digit addition to basic algebra. My second time tutoring, I tutored a high school trigonometry student. I met with the student at her home, at the hours that best suited her. Her grade improved from a C to an A over the course of a semester. My degree is in chemistry, so I feel very comfortable tutoring in that subject. Currently I am in two graduate programs in the medical field, naturopathic medicine and acupuncture. I feel very confident in my math and sciences. I have had past experience tutoring students at a local Learning Centering in Scottsdale where I worked with children from early elementary to high school. I am currently dealing with a special needs child as well so working with children at various cognitive levels is not problematic.
