I stated signing when I was 14 years old. I had met a few Deaf people and fell I'm love with the language and culture. I continued with studying American Sign Language through college. In 2011, I earned a bachelor degree in American Sign Language and Interpreting. I have been teaching American Sign Language at a local high school for 4 years.
I like to teach to the person. I adjust my teaching methods to best fit the person I am teaching.

I like to teach using everyday life experiences and things that are relative to the tutee. One can read MacBeth and other writers from the past and still be motivated to learn. I don't believe in memorization because that is not learning. I want the child to carry his newly learned knowledge well into his future and always have it available in the back of his mind. It should not be forgotten but built upon. It's like building a brick wall, one brick at a time. It does take time but when that final brick is put in place, what a masterpiece!

When I first meet with a student I let them tell me what they know. In their own words about the unit or subject they are currently having trouble with. If I know how the instructor teaches the lesson I try to duplicate it. The child is already having a hard time and I don’t want to compound the complicated by teaching a different way. But, then sometimes I need to start from scratch. Again, I try to build on whatever the child is already comfortable with. I tend to be interactive and like lots of feedback.
